Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman Projected As Winner In Close Race With Al Franken, Ballots Being Recounted

The Associated Press has called the senate race for Republican incumbent Norm Coleman, but at a scant thousand or so votes away from Franken's numbers, the results are being automatically recounted. Coleman's 42.03% versus Franken's 42.01% of the vote put this race at a dead heat.

Norm Coleman has already claimed victory, but is this a little premature? It seems to me, with the results as close as they are, this election is still up in the air. Coleman said "the prospect of overturning 725 votes is extremely, extremely, extremely remote," and asks Franken to forget about a recount, even though it is legally mandated and not really Franken's decision.

Remember this race next time you think your vote won't make a difference. This is a very slim margin, and any individual vote for either party could have swayed results dramatically.
