New Sorority Coming to JMU

New Sorority Coming to JMU

Brace yourselves, JMU Grecians and wannabe Grecians, a new sorority is coming to campus in the Spring—Zeta Phi Beta (not to be confused with ZBZ from the show “Greek”).

Zeta Phi Beta is actually not new to JMU; it’s returning after a short absence. It left JMU sometime after 1993.

We’ve already got the blonde sorority, the fake-tanned Jersey girl sorority, the down-to-earth sorority, and the sorority full of conservative Connecticuters, but where is Zeta Phi Beta going to fit in among all the Greek life stereotypes!?

Well, it must be noted: it’s primarily a black sorority (although not specified in the mass email sent to recruit students). They stand for scholarship, sisterly love, service, and finer womanhood. It was founded at Howard University in 1920.

It will be interesting to see who shows up on December 7th at 5:20 in Festival. If they made no specification in the email, they must be accepting anyone! But what happens when a crowd of white girls in spandex, Uggs, and hoodies come strolling in!?

Oh well, it’s nice to see another campus organization that people can pay thousands of dollars to join to make friends. I guess the best things in life aren’t free--even friendship has a price now.
