Sort of the like the difference between a mid-season department store markdown and a day-after-Thanksgiving sale, there are two types of drink specials: the classic, happy hour two-for-one, and college-town booze price slashes that are just plain dangerous.

El Maguey’s $1 Tuesday night margaritas are example number one of the latter. Served up with a maybe-fresh basket of tortilla chips, the tequila-heavy margs come frozen or on-the-rocks. A moderately priced menu of tacos, enchiladas and other Mexican staples accompanies the margaritas, but the surprisingly accommodating waitstaff knows you’re visiting for the drinks; they’re more than happy to let you sip all night long (just look around the room – everyone else is, too).
