Wooden beams sprouting from the top of Quinton's downtown - hope for bar-smokers and those that are sick of hanging off the top of the 'Berg, Big Twelve or Harpo's.

But the Columbia city council has, again, stopped Quinton's from continuing construction - what's their beef? First the balcony stuck out too far and now it's not handicap-accessible.

The owner asked for a variance - an exception - to go ahead regardless of city law but board members voted it down, saying, "Patios allow dining, drinking and smoking. Our concern is that if people are disabled who smoke, they have to have a way to get up there."

Well, dipshits, maybe you shouldn't have outlawed smoking in bars, then.

Even if the guy installs an elevator, city council will probably just come up with something else to shoot him down. But hey, maybe three will be a charm.
