The newly constructed 35W bridge is set to be finished by this Thursday at 5 am, when it will be christened by state troopers, guiding the first cars across. Though the reopening is taking place far earlier than the expected date of Dec. 24, it narrowly missed the deadline for the $27 million bonus (last night at midnight) and contractors Flatiron-Manson will have to settle for a measly, insignificant $20 million.
Does this seem a little early to anyone else? I mean, this thing took less than a year to build. I know the workers worked really hard and they had a very big crane and everyone is wishing really hard for it to stay up for a while, but it still makes me a little nervous. Eh, they know better than I do, I suppose.
