And I Thought I Had Financial Problems
As of tonight at midnight, there will be no budget set for the state of Illinois.

In another wonderful example of bureaucracy at its finest, lawmakers have been unable to decide how to appropriate the state's finances, especially in regards to gambling expansion, pension payments, and school funding. The only reason the government is in working order right now is because of a temporary one-month budget they enacted for the month of July.

What does this mean for you? Well, without the state budget set, they can't dole out the state school aid money. Also, if you enjoy the order and safety the police provide (think: walking alone late at night with an ipod across campus) you have some vested interest in them setting a budget.

This is a freaking state government! How do you let something like this happen? I'm convinced now that all politics is solely the art of bitching and arguing, and nothing more.
