The Olympics reek of greatness, but these are the moments that everyone remembers best:

• 1936: Jesse Owens won 4 gold medals in Nazi Berlin.
• 1960: Bikila Abebe ran the marathon barefoot and became the first African to win a gold medal.
• 1968: Tommie Smith and John Carlos called for equality in America from the podium.
• 1972: Mark Spitz won 7 gold medals at the Munich games.
• 1976: Nadia Comaneci of Romania became the first person ever to receive a perfect 10 in an Olympic gymnastic competition (she received the 10 for her performance on the uneven bars).
• 1992: By now we've all seen the Visa commercial, but at the Barcelona games Derek Redmond's father helped him cross the finish line during the 400m after his son injured his hamstring.
• 1992: The Dream Team: I remember being obsessed with them, even though I was only in preschool.
• 1996: Kerri Strug stuck her vault on one foot (and has a very high-pitched, squeaky voice).
• 2000: After the other two members of his heat disqualified on false starts, Eric Moussambani raced the 100m freestyle by himself.  His time was slower than the world record for the 200m freestyle, but he achieved a personal record and national record for his home country ofEquatorial Guinea.
• 2000, 2004, 2008: Anything Michael Phelps does.  No seriously, I'm pretty sure that America, as a country, is obsessed with him.
