Why does the military get money for billion-dollar toys when poor people starve?

Okay, I know government money is an important part of our society. I know budgets can be tough. And I know military budget is important. Without our army protecting us, there wouldn't be any educational or social programs to protect.

Yet it has recently come to my attention that the military has spent millions on toys it doesn't need. Millions on pay bonuses it doesn't have to give. Millions on perks it shouldn't have to hand out. And with all the poor people out there needing homes and food, with all the orphans out there needing better care, with all the help our hospitals and schools and roads could use, it annoys me when we let people suffer and starve so our military guys and gals can have toys. TOYS.

The toys in question are similar to laser-tag technology. At the end of a long weekend of grueling training, soldiers are rewarded by a game of War.  You wear a helmet and vest that is hooked up to the play guns of your enemies.  One side hides in the bushes and the other creeps along the road. Suddenly, one side attacks! Guns go off, fake explosions are heard, there is screaming and dying---all pretend, of course.  Everytime your gun laser hits the vest of an enemy, it registers. They have to lay down and play dead. The last team standing wins. Great fun is had by all.

I have to ask, why is this necessary? Why do we have teachers struggling with two jobs to pay bills, college kids going into debt to take out loans, and local kitchens crying out for more donations, so our military can play grown-up games? In Brooklyn the government can't afford to inspect houses so babies are eaten alive by rats while toddlers fall to their deathsdown broken elevator shafts--due to lack of funding. In Kansas City kids go to school in delapitaded buildings with moldy pipes and no computers--due to lack of funding. On the West coast teachers teach from behind bullet-proof glass.  Immigrants rot in jail without proper representaion.  Drug addicts can't find quality care and stay trapped in a cycle of addiction. Diseased people groan in pain, homeless beg on corners, prostitutes go without STD testing, babies lack health care, and new moms can't feed their kids. Then why do we spend millions on expensive toys?

Armies have trained without laser-tag games for milenia. Trained and won. Then why?

Because no one knew about it. Now you do. Write a legislator. Make a Facebook group. Start a petition. Do something.

No laser tag games til our poor are fed and our homeless clothed. Is that too much to ask?
