Senior Eli Rayfield: OTR's Hero

As if Chapel Hill didn’t have enough homeless people, senior Eli Rayfield is now one of them. The anthropology major has defied the tight housing market and found a place where the rent is $0 a month: in a hammock in Carrboro.

All kidding aside, though, there is something to be said for removing oneself from the rat race so completely that he has time to read a book a day, which, by our calculations, is more than the combined total of books that the rest of the UNC student body has read for pleasure in their entire lives.

On the other hand, he could just be doing ethnographic research on hippies. He is an anth major, after all, and he seems to have done a pretty succesful job of infiltrating Carrboro.

Eh. I'd be impressed, but it's still September. Five bucks says he gives up the first night below 50 degrees. Posted 09/17/2007 07:34 AMReply

Sure. You can send it to my name (as spelled in the story above, lower case) at hotmail dot com. I made it through the end of the semester though it fell into the low 30s and have since graduated. Feel free to send me a facebook message if you'd like any more details, I'm in town on weekends every couple weeks still. Posted 01/25/2008 10:59 AMReply

If you steal photos from the DTH, at least have the decency to credit the photographer. Posted 01/28/2008 7:28 PMReply

the "e" has been appended - for the record, though, her name is also misspelled on the DTH website, from where I copied and pasted the photo credit. Posted 01/30/2008 11:14 AMReply

Thanks for mentioning this--it was kind of distateful to so many uncredited DTH photos, and disrespectful to the photogs. Posted 02/02/2008 10:16 PMReply
