Penn State - A Public School, At An Ivy Price
You said "A" didn't you? Dumbass!

Sometimes people mix up Penn (The University of Pennsylvania) with Penn State (The Pennsylvania State University). For instance, we recently read a headline where a "Penn State" professor was charged killed his wife. Wrong! It was a Penn professor.  It's really hard to understand why people mix up the two schools, it's like mixing up apples and horse shit. But, this is one of those times we really wish they got it wrong: "The University of Pennsylvania ... replacing student loans with finance-free aid packages for middle-income students." Maybe we'll be paying extra to NOT live in Philadelphia.

Perhaps we have bad reading comprehension, but it appears that it may actually be cheaper for some people to attend Penn (and Harvard btw) than Penn State. According to The Inquirer, tuition plus room and board at Penn is currently$46K (compared to about $22K for in-state and $33K for out-of-state at PSU). But, by the 2009-10 school year, "A family earning $100,000 will have to pay $10,000 to $15,000 depending on their financial need, said Bill Schilling, Penn's director of financial aid. Those with incomes of $150,000 will be charged $20,000 to $25,000, he said."

So, unless your family is making over $150,000 per year, you will pay under $25K to attend Penn, making it cheaper for a resident of a state other than PA to attend the Ivy League school. So, what's the reason for coming to Penn State again? Right, the football team.

Oh, and that little problem of not getting accepted at Penn.
