Ladies, we’ve all been there. We’re walking down the street minding our own business when some jerk “hollers” at us. Although it can happen anytime, anywhere, it takes place most often in a metropolitan area during the summertime.

Guys, you know what I’m talking about. You may think you’re complimenting us but really, you’re insulting us. Women don’t appreciate the wolf-whistling or the cat-calling. And if you don’t agree, there is a term for you: street harasser.

While street harassment is often harmless and playful, many women feel threatened. Have no fear, ladies. There is something you can do to stand up to street harassers: “holla back.” Women everywhere are doing so and empowering other women to follow in their footsteps. Let those men out there know that you will not tolerate or accept their demeaning behavior.

Men, let this be a lesson learned. The next time you're thinking of hollering at an attractive woman on the street, remember that your picture could end up on Holla Back’s wall of shame.
