In the Collegian's "News In Brief" section today (which is always fun for seeing who got arrested over the weekend), is a piece about a University of Maryland - Baltimore County track and field runner who was arrested Sunday morning with criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, harassment and underage drinking, and released on $20,000 unsecured bail. A better description of the incident is in yesterday's CDT, which explains the runner walked into a stranger's apartment, pissed on the floor and then punched the apartment occupant in the face when he objected to the pissing. Perhaps the newspaper clip of the semester is this:
"According to the affidavit of probable cause, apartment occupant Alexander Herman told police he was asleep in his apartment when he was awakened by the sound of rain. When Herman opened his eyes, the affidavit said, he saw a man urinating inside his bedroom."
But the UMBC Retrievers (nice mascot, snark!) weren't the only team causing trouble in State College this weekend. The Drexel University men's ice hockey team allegedly gave the rock star treatment to the Ramada Inn on Atherton Street [correction: The Collegian is reporting it happed at The Days Inn downtown] early Sunday morning.
According to police, the entire team was cited with criminal mischief after police showed up at the hotel around 3a.m. Sunday. Obviously Drexel must have been really pissed off after losing games on Friday (2-1) and Saturday (8-0) to the Penn State Icers, who clinched the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League regular-seas0n championship with the wins.
An entire team getting in trouble with the cops? Finally, something that makes our football team look good.
