When done right, a mascot can intimidate the hell out of an opposing team (personally, I wouldn't want to mess with a Texas Tech Red Raider, a Miami Hurricane, or a USC Trojan). Unfortunately, some schools get a little too creative with their mascots and end up with nothing more than giant teddy bears as representatives for their schools' athletic programs. Here are the 10 least intimidating mascots in Division I:

10. Centenary Gentlemen: What are you going to do? Tip your hat to me? Stick your pinkie out?

9. UMKC Kangaroos: I understand that kangaroos pack a mean kick if you mess with them, but I think the general consensus is that kangaroos are cute, not dangerous.

8. Nebraska Cornhuskers: Cowboys with harvesting experience?

7. Oregon Ducks: Not even the Oregon "Mighty" Ducks?

6. Campbell Fighting Camels: Putting the word "fighting" in front of an obscure animal does not make you scary.

5. UC Irvine Anteaters: Well, I guess if my mascot was an ant, then I might be intimidated.

4. Austin Peay Governors: Political power is not going to help you on the football field.

3. St. Louis Billikens: According to Wikipedia, a Billiken is an elfish charm doll.figurine and a less popular version of the teddy bear.  I rest my case.

2. St. Peter's Peacocks: At least your mascot is pretty.

1. Presbyterian Blue Hose: Not a blue fire hose, not even a blue garden hose--blue hose as in blue pantyhose.

I went to Presbyterian College....and personally, when playing a sport, as a female, I much rather preferred "Go Blue" rather than "Go Hose"!!! It is a peculiar mascot- but PC is a GREAT place to go to college!! Posted 12/12/2008 1:45 PMReply
