Yoga has hit the college scene; even the Ivy League schools are stretching to keep their students happy by offering yoga courses.
When most people think of yoga they envision candles and hippies high on weed, not hip and trendy college kids and rich, green-conscious adults. Well, the old-fashioned yoga has been replaced by a New-Age form and it is sweeping the nation, and college campuses. It is estimated that 15 to 20 million people in the United States are practicing yoga. The types of yoga range from hot yoga to power yoga to yoga kickboxing to fat-blasting yoga. So, whatever your yoga mantra, you are sure to find a type that suits your needs.
New York City boasts wacky happenings every day; you never know what might happen. Well, if you were walking around Times Square Saturday while being mesmerized by all the lights and ritzy billboards you may have seen something unimaginable. Over two hundred yoga enthusiasts contorting their bodies into poses I only thought my cat could get into, let alone get out of.
In celebration of the summer solstice the Times Square Alliance offered free yoga classes. By the end of the day there were over 800 rejuvenated minds and bodies, with nearly 150-200 people attending each of the six sessions offered by various yoga studios and instructors. If these people could do yoga in busy Times Square with thousands of people watching, pointing and taking pictures, surely you could focus in your own living room.
