Ever go down the row and just see a party that makes you go "Uh Oh."? You don't know what exactly it is, but you know that if you came back to this house in 20 minutes, there would be police and crying sorority girls spilling out onto the lawn.
Researchers at Ball State University decided to test out what exactly makes our party-radar beep in fear, Ball State's News reported. For some reason, though, they were surprised to find out that copious amounts of alcohol did NOT do the trick. Apparently, the researchers haven't been to college in a while.
They did find out, though, that both genders see a lack of people as a dangerous sign. If a ton of people are filing out of the party, both men and women will see that as a sign that something isn't right. Both genders also agreed that poor lighting could be a sign of skeeziness to come. There were, however, noticeable differences between the genders:
Men feel less safe at parties where people fight and in environments where gender balances are unequal, he said.
In contrast, women reported the condition of the house and suggestive dancing as key factors in determining a safe setting, he added.
So if you've been noticing a drop in your house's party attendance, take a tip from science: get some new light bulbs, make sure you have ladies, and keep the strippers in the back. Oh, and apparently have a sh*tload of alcohol. Because that'll make us feel extra safe.
