Edwards Decides Not To "Distract" College Students With His Disgraceful Life

Seems John Edwards has flip-flopped on the issue of public appearances post-scandalous affair.

Last we heard, Edwards wasn’t exactly shying away from the spotlight. In fact he was trying to hog it! The cheating scoundrel had added to his public speaking and even upped his price. But now it seems Edwards is singing a different tune – a tune of shame, embarrassment and maybe even rejection.

Just as quickly as Edwards added speaking engagements, he’s now taking them away. The Edwards couple won’t be sharing their wisdom at Salem State, gone is the talk at the University of Illinois and no longer will Hofstra students get to hear about the American Dream from such an American hero.

Radar magazine recently reported that event organizers actually forced Edwards out of a 2008 Healthcare Facilities Summit, at which he was to be a keynote speaker. So maybe these other “cancellations” aren’t quite so voluntary after all. Newsday has Edwards’ official reasoning;

Former Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards is canceling all public appearances until after the November election - including a Monday event at Hofstra University - because he doesn't want to be "a distraction."

"Nothing is more important than electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden," Edwards said in a statement released yesterday by his booking agency, the Harry Walker Agency in Manhattan. "I don't want my appearance at these events to be a distraction from the important issues of the election, or from the important purpose of these meetings."

Distraction, really? Since when does a sex scandal here or there overshadow the issues?
