Sex Robots to Replace Girlfriends?

Sex Robots to Replace Girlfriends?

Everyone wants to be loved, but can a 38 cm tall kissing female robot really do the trick? Are men that desperate?

Sega recently announced the arrival of its “loveable” lady robot, E.M.A. (Eternal, Maiden, Actualization). The interactive robot can sing, dance, pass out business cards and even kiss- what every dream girl should do. Sony says the robot is targeted toward men over the age of 20. But can this $175 robot with an “elegant body” and curvaceous features really cure loneliness?

E.M.A. is designed to be interactive. According to Sega, “Internal infra-red sensors also allow for a high level of interactivity with humans, and EMA can register anyone in her proximity.” This means E.M.A. is capable of walking with you, holding your hand and identifying faces for kissing.

The introduction of E.M.A. could be the first step toward every guy's dream- a girlfriend that he can control. E.M.A. is obviously not anatomically correct or life size, but she is the first step to a robotic girlfriend.

Sega says, “She’s not a real girl but she can act like a real girlfriend.”

Advocates of E.M.A. compare her to toys such as Furbies and Giga Pets, some even call her an interactive Barbie Doll. Barbie was after all first produced as a “sex doll” marketed toward men.

Hollywood has shown us through movies such as “Lars and the Real Girl” that there is no substitution for real human relationships. However, as the digital era grows with the popularity of games such as the Sims and Second Life, only time will tell how far men will be willing to extend their “digital” relationships.

So gentlemen, get ready to introduce E.M.A to Mom, she is schedule to hit US stores on Sept. 26.
