The Oregonians & the Holocaust Denier

The Oregonians & the Holocaust Denier

Though the University of Oregon has vehemently denied any connection to this event, still, The Pacifica Forum was allowed to invite Holocaust denier, David Irving. This past Monday, Irving was on the University of Oregon campus to discuss his views on the "real" Holocaust.

David Irving is a well-known author, who has garnered publicity for disproving the events of the Holocaust. Irving has been banned from four countries and was even jailed in Austria for his preposterous denial of the Holocaust. As part of his real history tour, he stopped by the U of O to drop off some delectable tidbits of anti-Semitism.

Of course, backlash ensues. A protest was staged Monday, with riled Oregon residents expressing extreme concern for Irving's appearance on campus.

To the protesters' chagrin, the university will continue to allow the Pacifica Forum to invite other speakers, like Irving, to the campus

The University stands by Irving's appearance because:

A) The Pacifica Forum is run by a former U of O professor, Orval Etter, and by University policy he is allowed to "rent" space on campus for free.

B) The University claims that they are not affiliated with the group, thus they are not responsible for the negative media surrounding the appearance.

C) The University proudly defends freedom of speech, so they will not force them off campus.

This is not the first time that the Pacifica Forum has brought waste to the campus, other great visitors, like a white supremacist, have been shuttled onto the campus by way of the Pacifica Forum. Thus far, the Pacifica Forum is still allowed to hold their weekly meetings on campus.

No one is really afraid of the students being exposed to these insipid meetings, since it is headed by socially awkward and considerably aged men, so the university is in the clear. Sadly, I want to read Irving's book "Hitler's War," just to see argumentation against the Holocaust and its victims.

Interesting proposition:  Maybe Irving should be sent, under false pretense, to a luxury "shower" mysteriously spritzing Zyklon B.
