Here's the back story: So, last spring there was a whole fuss about the “Pregnant Man.” His name is Thomas Beatie and he’s a transgender. He was born Tracy but underwent gender transformation to become Thomas. He’s now married to a woman, Nancy, and he and his wife decided they wanted a kid. There was one hitch, though. Nancy had a hysterectomy. Lucikly, Beatie, who looks like a man, still has his female parts. And so he became the “Pregnant Man,” an international phenomenon.
In June, the Beaties welcomed their first child, daughter Susan. Since then, the Beaties have laid low in Oregon. Until now. In an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters, Thomas reveals that he is pregnant again!
After Susan’s birth, Thomas didn’t go back on testosterone so that he could have another baby and now that baby is due June 12.
Don’t worry, though. Thomas and Nancy insist they are a normal family, with a mom, dad and children. And their children, they say, will understand the situation from the beginning. ABC reports:
The Beaties are already telling Susan about the unusual circumstances of her birth. Thomas Beatie reads his daughter, whom he calls "Sweetpea," the Eric Carle book "Mr. Seahorse," a children's picture book that shows how male sea horses carry their offspring. "And I point to the picture at the end of the book where Mr. Seahorse has his babies and say, 'this is what I did with you, Sweetpea, and you're just that one special sea horse.'"
"I just wish that people could be more tolerant to different types of families," Nancy Beatie said. "And I want them to know that we love each other, and we're going to love this baby."
It may be somewhat twisted… but it’s cute. Right?
