Fox 11 News and KTLA are reporting that a 22-year-old male student was fatally wounded during an altercation on Orchard St. and 28th or 29th last night, a few blocks north of campus.
Not much is known about the situation yet, but sources say that the two men got into a fight when the student was walking home from a nearby house party. The suspect, also in his twenties, stabbed the victim in the chest, then fled on foot. The student was rushed to the hospital, but later passed away at 2:10 a.m.
I can confirm by ear that police units, as well as police and news helicopters are still swarming campus and the surrounding area, having started doing so at about 1:45 am this morning. KTLA Television Morning News said that, as of right now, police copters were not searching for suspects, just checking out the area-- though it seems strange that they'd still be here. More updates as the story develops and more information is released.
UPDATE:
USC Students received an email at 8:05a this morning, confirming the identity of the murdered student as Bryan Richard Frost:
I regret to inform the USC community of the tragic death of one of our own. Cinematic Arts student Bryan Richard Frost was stabbed during an early morning off campus altercation, and was pronounced dead after transport to California Hospital. After the stabbing, the assailant fled the scene. The incident is being aggressively investigated by LAPD. I know that you all join me in sympathy for Bryan’s family and friends. Anyone affected by this tragedy is asked to contact the Student Counseling center at 213 740 8742 or Student Affairs at 213 740 2421.
With this and some terrible assaults that happened at Cardinal Gardens, students need to be sure to keep extra safe. Be careful, my fellow Trojans. I'm sure there's something to be said about improving safety in this area, but that's another post for another day.
RIP Bryan and condolences to the Frost family and friends.
