One small trip for a club, one giant leap for undergraduate gyroscope-stabilized robot-appendages! How did I go to a club fair and miss the club that gets to go on NASA's "Vomit Comet?" All I did was get signed up for the Johnson Museum Club list serve. Lame.
Cornell's Control Movement Gyroscope team did recently get to go on the Vomit Comet and besides making me unbelievably jealous, they also got to take AWESOME Facebook pictures. (And test their stupid robot arm, which got rusty.)
According to the press release, Josha Kenedy '07, the team leader, was upset that they didn't collect more data but was glad to know their mathematical models where theoretically correct. That leads me to believe the team spent more time being spun by astronauts and less time "actually doing anything scientific."
This press release almost made me want to become an engineer until I realized that two of the three students mentioned in the article don't have Facebook pictures, or real-life friends.
