Egyptian College Student Offered As Trophy To Iraqi Shoe-Thrower

It’s pretty widely known that since an Iraqi journalist threw not one, but two shoes at Bush during a press conference the other day, he’s become a hero in his home country and beyond. Now one Egyptian wants to pay tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi with something special: his daughter.

Don’t worry though, the woman, a student at Minya University in central Egypt, is all for the plan.

Reuters reports:

The daughter, Amal Saad Gumaa, said she agreed with the idea. "This is something that would honour me. I would like to live in Iraq, especially if I were attached to this hero," she told Reuters by telephone.

Her father, Saad Gumaa, said he had called Dergham, Zaidi's brother, to tell him of the offer. "I find nothing more valuable than my daughter to offer to him, and I am prepared to provide her with everything needed for marriage," he added.

There’s been no word yet from al-Zaidi on the proposal. He’s probably just a little busy being beaten up in prison to respond, but I'm sure he's grateful.

However, if the arrangement is successful, Bush should get to make a speech at the wedding. He did bring them together after all.
