Even Post-Grad Dream Jobs are Hurting, Google Making Perk Cuts

Google, the seemingly invincible internet supergiant, is even being affected by the toilet-like economic climate as of late. They just sent out a memo to their New York office saying that cafeteria hours were being trimmed, food selection will be decreased and traditions like Tuesday afternoon tea (yes they did that) are suspended indefinitely. Also, more restricted guest feeding policies, and no more meals to go.

As someone who has been to the Google offices in Mountain View, this is kind of a big deal. The thing I most noticed about the expansive headquarters was the virtually unlimited supply of food. Like, everywhere. There was free food in kitchens, free vending machines and a free cafeteria that had the largest section of meal choices I had ever seen in one place.

Sure saying that the food selection is decreasing at Google is kind of like telling a CEO that he has to settle for a $10 million mansion rather than the $12 million one, but I bet it’s rather disheartening in the Google offices nonetheless.

But I don’t think it’s going to lose its spot as the “best place to work in the world” for quite some time. Maybe once they cut out the free massages.
