Whether you’re rocking out on the treadmill, bopping around your room, or dancing at a club, there’s no question that the ultimate pump-up music has got to be Girl Talk.
Girl Talk, otherwise known as Gregg Gillis, is a DJ/producer/musical engineer/mash-up master who specializes in rap, hip-hop, and pop mixes. His not-exactly-legal songs are truly amazing – one of my favorites brilliantly combines the background music from “Come on Eileen” with the lyrics from DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat,” an impressively unexpected mash-up that would appeal to everyone from ladies from the 80s in mom-jeans to baller club goers.
Which is why everyone should get super excited that Girl Talk is coming to Penn! He will be performing (performing? DJing?) at the Starlight Ballroom (460 N. 9th Street) on February 28th at 9 p.m.
Yes, it seems ridiculously early to be getting pumped for the show so soon, but you can already start reserving tickets. If you are over 21, you can email GirlTalk.UPenn@Gmail.com with your name, number of tickets, and who informed you about the show in order to get them in advance. Otherwise, tickets will be sold on Locust Walk starting February 2nd.
The best part of all is that shuttle buses will be provided to schlep Penn students from campus to the show – a great way to save money that would otherwise be spent on cabs (or on a smelly SEPTA).
So “Let Me See You” “Bounce That”, and with your “Hands in the Air,” let’s get ready to “Shut the Club Down.” That may have been “Too Deep” for anyone who doesn’t know Girl Talk’s song titles…but, apparently, I “Don’t Stop,” because being corny is “What It’s All About.” Okay, I’m done. Go to the show!
