Even though NSO (that’s New Student Orientation for all you non Penn-goers) is sadly coming to a close, I’d like to drag it out for another week by providing you with some posts about everyone’s favorite few days of school.
First up on the agenda: what the hell does one wear when it’s a muggy 84˚ and one plans on frequenting jam-packed, un-air-conditioned frats all night? As tempting as it is to visually impress our peers (this goes for guys, too – we know how much you time you secretly spend primping), it’s also important to keep cool.
After carefully observing the frat scene these past few days, I’ve concluded that freshmen girls deal with the heat by wearing the slutty-heels-and-a-dress-that-should-really-be-a-shirt look, whereas upper classmen are more inclined to slip into shorts and flip-flops. After spending one too many NSOs hobbling around Beige in stilettos and wedges, sandals are clearly the way to go.
Guys have less leeway, not really having the dress vs. shorts question to consider, but it goes without saying that wearing a pair of jeans is probably bad for one’s physical and mental health (as well as being social suicide – no one wants to be friends with the creepy kid who can’t stop sweating.)
Seeing as it will probably be hot in Philly until Halloween (thank you, global warming), I’d keep the jeans in the back of your closet until we at least hit the 60˚ mark.
