Penn PSA: Today is International Talk Like Sarah Palin Day

Last evening, I was at my computer watching one of Tina Fey’s glorious SNL renditions of Sarah Palin when my friend IrregularVerb walked into my room to chat. Seeing the bespectacled, pageant-haired Fey on my screen, IrregularVerb informed me of a very special holiday that will be debuting for the first time today, October 21.

According to a cyber invitation that’s been floating around Facebook, today is International Talk Like Sarah Palin Day. The event was started by some guy named David Teddy Ware – whether or not he thought of the idea or just created the event, I give him mad, mad props.

According to the invite, the event will run all day (12:00 a.m. to 11:55 p.m.) and will occur “wherever mooses be found.” As of now, 480,169 people are “attending” – quite the turn-out.

Just to make sure everyone is on the same page as to what exactly Palinism entails, you’ll pretty much be set if you throw in a bunch of “you betchas” and references to Russia in your everyday speech. Or you could just skirt any questions you don’t want to respond to and direct all personal conversation towards stuff you’ve been prepped to answer. Just an idea.

But really, regardless of who you’re voting for in this epic election, it’s nice to see that everyone has a sense of humor. It truly is almost too easy to poke fun at Palin – between the pageants, moose, mavericks, pigs in lipstick, and Joe six-packs, this woman has more unintentional inside jokes with the entire country than anyone in history. But just remember that it’s all in good fun – until November 4, of course.
