FREE TIBET!

If you look at the very top of the tower, you'll see a blue banner with the words "FREE TIBET" on them. This was not a school sponsored banner but the work of two daring students. There is no way to get up that high on Webb Tower, but these guys did. They literally got out onto the roof from a window and scaled the tower. The two are supposedly very good rock-climbers and as I haven't heard any ambulances on campus lately, they didn't fall to an untimely demise. The two guys are friends of a friend of mine and I was told they were planning this for awhile but the first time they tried, the banner was just too small so they made a new one.

If you didn't know, UR was playing host to Chairman Ben Bernanke of the Federal Reserve today, so it was very fitting that the banner show up on a day that a government official made his appearance on campus. Not to mention its our President Ayers' inauguration tomorrow when plenty of alumni and trustees will be in attendance.

Great job guys. It still amazes me every time I walk by it. I have no idea how the custodians are going to get it down but it'll be fun to watch. =]
