Worthy of Being Thrown Out

Final Thoughts: When it comes to certain kinds of music, screaming can be effective in conveying the emotion of a song (example: Linkin Park). Too much however and it is no longer music; just loud noise. This is the case with Meriwether’s CD “Make Your Move.”

Within the first second of the first song on the CD, I was unpleasantly surprised by the loud, banging, crashing, incoherent instrumentals. The screaming vocals that followed did not help. I tried to ignore all of that and focus on the lyrics but did not enjoy those either. The lyrics, along with the titles of each song, made no sense to me. They appeared like poetry, and I’m sure the band was trying to convey a certain message, but the only message I got was depression. Sure, sex and love were mentioned but so were murder and war. Maybe I’m not seeing the bigger picture but how do these elements together make good music? They just don’t.

I tried to give the CD the benefit of the doubt and listen to the whole thing. By the end though, I was ready to turn it off and pop some pills to treat my headache.
