As Columbia, NYU, and Pace students already know, Manhattan is not the glamorized playground portrayed in the popular HBO series Sex and the City. As the feature length film debuts nation-wide in just over two weeks, the first of many film reviews have begun to surface.
While many women, and (some) men, are preparing for this monumental event, many of the devoted fans have expressed their displeasure in re-visiting what is now a tired, out-dated paradigm to single and fabulous culture. As the first review in Variety illustrates, women are reluctant to embrace this attempt at resurrecting the inimitable four women and their fabulous lives.
The film seems like a two-and-a-half hour advertisement, despite Sarah Jessica Parker's much discussed attempts to seamlessly intergrate them within the plot. The zeitgeist of the show has been lost, now with boom of the dot com generation, and Carrie & Co. almost seem to be caricatures of themselves within the film, narrowly pacing within expected, yet unwanted, plot points (Carrie is getting married, Charlotte has a baby, Miranda attempts to not be such a work-aholic, Samantha struggles with monogamy, etc.).
But even if you find yourself excited for the film, you are not alone. Despite all the negative thoughts, all critics still seem reluctantly excited about the May 30th premiere. And, if you, too, find yourself anticipating its arrival, celebrate, but in private, with Cosabella's new line of lingerie inspired by each of the four fabulous women (available at BareNecessities.com).
