5 Great Places to Catch Celebrities

5 Great Places to Catch Celebrities

Living in Los Angeles, running into celebrities is inevitable, if not expected. Whether you bumped into Christina Aguilera at 40 Deuce, or was partying with Ashton at Nobu, everyone in this town seems to know everyone else.

But if you're not into the party scene, and you don't want to spend the money on the bar cover prices/hotels the stars are known to frequent, how do you find the stars? Well, everyone has to eat (well, maybe not everyone, but most of us), so here are a few fair-priced food establishments where you can hope to run into your favorite celeb-- and maybe catch them munching on a hamburger.

1) The Alcove

An upscale cafe in the richie Los Feliz area, the Alcove's breakfast and lunch menu is not only healthy and delicious, but not too terribly expensive (OK, the burger is $10 so it's not McDonald's, but it's better than other LA hotspots). I've not only seen indie groups such as Rilo Kiley munching it up there, but so does Anna Friel of "Pushing Daisies" fame as well.

2) The Griddle

Get there early, because the line grows to get into the famous Hollywood diner. Or, don't because the celebs always come late (and never have to wait). Famous for their selection of fanciful pancake creations (they have OREO COOKIE PANCAKES. No, Seriously) and huge portions, everyone from Donald Faison of "Scrubs" to "Law & Order: SVU"'s Adam Beach comes here to much on the overly-filling breakfast the Griddle provides.

3) Grub

Not only a place FOR celebrities, but it's RUN by one too! Season 2 of Top Chef's Betty Fraser owns this LA lunch spot, which serves delicious breakfast, lunch, and weekend brunch. Their egg scrambles are heavenly, and their famous "After School Special" is to die for. That, and you can sit next to Drew Carey while he munches on Fruit Loops. True story.

4) Mao's Kitchen

Yeah, that's really the name. Yeah, it's chinese food. Yeah, there's Communist propaganda all over the walls (and, at dinner, they show Communist-Propaganda-Ballet!), but it's damn good Chinese food. Their Orange and Kung Pao Chicken are especially tasty, and Martin Starr from Judd Apatow's crew there every once in a while. Because there's nothing stoners love more than Chinese Food.

5) Toast

This tasty little LA cafe offers some wonderful, upscale versions of classic food. Maybe that (and their phenomenal cupcakes) are what draws everyone from the D-List (LC and her Hills friends) to the A-List (Eva Longoria and husband Tony Parker) there. Seriously though, those cupcakes are the bomb.

Anyway, I'll be at Comic Con next weekend (yeah, I'm THAT much of a nerd), so I'll be sure to hit you, my fellow OTR readers, with whatever celebs I encounter there. Until then, happy eating!
