Politician sex scandals have been raining down like cats and dogs over the past few years, and this latest case is more of the same. Chrissy Mazzeo is a cocktail waitress accusing Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons of battery, false imprisonment and second-degree kidnapping. Wow, kidnapping? I think that’s a new one for a governor. The incident started when Gibbons approached her in a parking lot after they had been sharing drinks in a club earlier.

The lawsuit filed by Las Vegas attorney Robert Kossack detailed the alleged parking lot exchange between Mazzeo and Gibbons and quoted Gibbons as telling Mazzeo: "I'm going to rape you."

The suit said Mazzeo resisted, asked if Gibbons was serious and quoted him as replying, "This isn't what I want from you. You have two choices. You can try to run away or you can let this happen."

 

So what’s the airtight defense to refute these damning claims?

Responding to the accusations two years ago, Gibbons said he merely caught Mazzeo when she tripped in the parking garage.

Is that like the “she fell down some stairs” defense? Or maybe “she walked into a door”? Politicians, stop acting like you’re some sort of comic book villain. Just because a bunch of people voted for you does not give you the power to act like you run the world. In this case, Jim Gibbons, you run Nevada, big deal.

So what’s going to happen? Who knows. What normally happens with these kind of things? It usually involves leaving office at some point if you say, had a gay affair behind your wife’s back, or solicited sex in an airport bathroom, or sent sexually explicit messages to male pages, but hey, that’s all gay stuff, and proven. Attempted rape of a cocktail waitress with no witnesses? I think a judge would make Gibbons mow Chrissy Mazzeo’s lawn or paint her house or something as penance.
