Comic Con is frakkin huge. Seriously. It's massive. And giant. I asked a guy how big the convention center is, and he told me it could house the amount of about 25 football fields. Twenty. Five.
Now imagine all those football fields filled with nerds. Nerds of all sizes and kinds- comic nerds, massive gaming rooms, Magic the Gathering tournaments. And, while cool, consistently trying to keep up with thousands of people that are geeking out about things you don't understand is a little draining. There is a guy behind me geeking out about the Justice League. What's worse is that I'm dating this guy (just kidding!).
Either way, I am enjoying myself, tiredness aside. Comic Con is an awesome learning experience, as it contains literally EVERYTHING genre, from movies to games to even massive toy booths. It's pretty awesome. And the costumes!! There is a slave Leia costume contest later, and the Gotham Public Works, a troupe that make there living portraying Batman villains, wanders the floor.
That, and Hollywood is finally realizing the power of genre fans. Yesterday Paramount approached a bunch of publisher's booths to talk about possible rights. And I bumped into Kiefer Sutherland outside the convention center. DAMMIT!
Nothing was bigger evidence to this power than yesterday's Twilight. For those of you without younger siblings, Twilight is a vampire teen romance drama. Seriously. And I gotta be honest with you, it's BAD. It's not well written. It's really pretty awful.
Yet there were girls from 12 to 24 lined up at 1a, wearing "Edward is Mine" shirts, trying to meet the cast. I saw girls go into full blown panic attacks when they found out they wouldn't be able to get in. Mothers fought with security guards to try and get their daughters in. These fangirls (despised by regular comic book geeks) literally took over the convention center with t-shirts and tears. For one of the first times, there was a line of screaming women at a Comic book convention.
What's happening to the world?
