HBO Remembers George Carlin at USC

Tonight starting at 8pm HBO and HBO2 will remember George Carlin with encore presentations of many of his stand-up specials, including his very first HBO feature, “George Carlin at USC.

Filmed live at the University of Southern California in 1977, the comic talks about monopoly, flying on planes, walking, random thoughts and (most importantly) how he never did a show for home consumption or reproduction.

Near the end of the 85 minute show, the video freezes and a message appears for the sense of responsibility. That message reads:
“THE FINAL SEGMENT OF MR. CARLIN'S PERFORMANCE CONTAINS ESPECIALLY CONTROVERSIAL LANGUAGE, PLEASE CONSIDER WHETHER YOU WISH TO CONTINUE VIEWING.”

Carlin’s observations about the vagaries of language and everyday life made him one of the most enduring stars of the stand-up world. According to Zap2It the comic became the first person to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor posthumously.

HBO2 will present 11 of his specials over two nights. The HBO2 schedule is (all times ET/PT):
