Glenn Martin, an inventor from New Zealand, has invented a personal jet pack that will allow an average sized person to fly 30 miles (at approximately 1,500 feet) in 30 minutes on a 5 gallon tank of gas.

A prototype of the jet pack was flown by Martin's son at an air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  The pack hovered about three feet from the ground (it was being held down by two spotters) for 45 seconds.

Martin hopes to have his jet packs out on the market within a year.  Unfortunately, each pack will cost $100,000.  the FAA has yet to determine how to regulate jet pack flight.
