So last night
while I was sleeping in a car in the back Alleys of Melbourne.
Everyone else at Bruce Hall was dressed to the nines at Simon's 21st Birthday party (In Australia you can drink at 18, but they still make a big deal of your 21st too, because not you can drink in America, woot!).
Simon lives in a town right out side the city of Canberra, where we stay (and the capitol FYI). The town is called the Ridges and is about a 30 minute drive by car. There was a bus that everyone took to get out there to celebrate the birth of Simon.
At a certain point alcohol introduces itself into the situation (like all college parties) and everyone proceeded to get off their face (Australian expression for getting drunk). One kind soul named Ackley got soo off his face, he missed the bus back to Canberra.
Using space age technology known as mobile phones, he contacted his friend Nashad, who proceeded to tell him not to worry they would get him a cab. Ackley then decided that is way too much of a hassle and decides to use primitive technology called his feet, and proceed to RUN BACK TO CANBERRA.
So let's recap: 30 minutes outside Canberra, trashed, in a suit.
Ackley proceeds to throw caution to the win, hang up his mobile, and run into Canberra, in his suit.
Now, the Australian National University has a sporting event (if you can call it that, Masochism sounds more like it) called Inward Bound, where you and three other people are driven out into the Australian outback for 3 hours, blindfolded, dropped off with a map and a pack on your back. You are then expected to orientate yourself find the endpoint on the map, and run in an INWARDly direction toward it. So technically speaking if you've been training for this, this should be nothing more than a light jog.
To the best of my knowledge, Ackley was not training for inward bound, and when you do run Inward Bound, you are entirely sober, and have not been drunk for the duration of your training.
So back to our hero, Ackley successful makes it into Canberra, and then to add an extra layer of fun to the night, does not run home to Bruce Hall to sleep, but rather opts to run further into Canberra and meet up with everyone at Mooseheads, the local club/pub/nightclub. He proceeds to get tanked, again, and later 6 of his friends are required to restrain him and put him to bed.
At this point in time I would like to start a movement that we alter the way Inward Bound is modeled and instead base it on the model set forth by Ackley's model, I also then start a movement that we then export new found sport to the states as a new brand of "extreme" drinking games. Who's with me?
