This exceptionally bizarre story is pretty tragic when all is said and done. Police shot and killed a Wisconsin student this past week because he was dressed like a Nazi and allegedly pointing a WWII bayoneted rifle at them.

But those who knew the student say that he wasn’t a crazy Neo-Nazi, he just loved the past, and dressing up for reenactments and the like. To be fair, he probably should have seen the repercussions of standing outside his apartment, firing blanks into the air. And police say that they shot him because he refused to put the gun down and they felt threatened.

Some are criticizing the police for their actions, but this case is pretty different from ones where say, the guy was holding a grapefruit and they thought it was a grenade. If I showed up to a call and there was a guy in a Nazi uniform brandishing a bayoneted rifle, my Call of Duty instincts would probably kick in as well.

Just a bad situation all around.
