Belgians Buy American Brewer: Pros and Cons

Belgians Buy American Brewer: Pros and Cons

Americans everywhere are mourning InBev's $52 billion acquisition of America's largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch. What will this mean for beer lovers nationwide?

5 Reasons Why We'll Suffer

1. For one thing, we're losing our biggest brewer, the pride and joy of our beer-drinking culture. "It's more than just beer," according to SaveBudweiser.com. It's our beloved family jewels and they're ripping them out of us like it's nothing. How humiliating.

2. Think of the children. Once they reach the proper age to drink, "21," the younger generations will never know the original mediocre taste of Bud Light, or the American legacy that is (was) Anheuser-Busch.

3. The title, "The Great American Lager," has been synonymous with the Budweiser brand--until now. When the Belgians take over, it'll be considered false advertising.

4. Just another example of Americans losing jobs to foreigners. InBev is taking away the benefits felt by Anheuser-Busch employees who marvel at the happiness they bring to beer consumers everyday.

5. College students should be worried about a possible price increase in beer. The acquisition could mean that the beverage will soon become a luxury. Imagine cutting down on games of beer pong, flip cup, and kings. Gasp.

5 Reasons Why We'll Recover

1. InBev, the second largest beer producer in the world, is known for some of the best beers (in my opinion), such as Stella Artois and Hoegaarden. Let's hope that the Belgians have a special ingredient for enhancing the taste and quality of Budweiser and Natty Light.

2. St. Louis will remain the North American headquarters for Anheuser-Busch Inbev. The company also plans to keep all 12 Anheuser-Busch breweries in America. Thank God.

3. A European-based company selling American lager could mean more distribution in other continents, thus improving the face and popularity of the U.S. worldwide.

4. Here's to you, Sam Adams! Now that Budweiser's sold, you've now become America's largest brewery, followed by Yuengling and Sierra Nevada. Hopefully, you'll stay true to your roots unlike un-American A-B.

5. When it comes down to it all, most people don't know Anheuser-Busch produces Budweiser, Michelob, Natty, Bacardi, O'Doul's, Busch, and even Monster energy drink; so does it really matter if Anheuser-Busch turns into Anheuser-Busch InBev?
