USC's Reverse Osmosis Enters Ben Folds Contest, Proves that USC A Cappella Is Awesome

Now, now, I've heard it before. A Cappella is for dweebs. Only losers care about singing in a group. Blah blah blah. There was a time where I may have agreed with you, but, coming to college, I've seen the light. I guess I'm not the only one.

It  seems that musicians are seeking to make a cappella haters step to the left finally and giving a little celebrity vindication to the art (beyond Andy's character from The Office). Recently, Ben Folds came out and talked about how he had stumbled across some college a cappella groups performing his work and was surprised at the new things they brought to the song. "Old-fashioned-talent-scout-style," he asked groups to submit their YouTube videos so he could make an album.

Um, awesome.

USC has a number of very talented a cappella groups on campus, but a friend of mine sent this video my way and I had to share. Reverse Osmosis always seems to have not only great musicality and vocal talent (their version of "I Have Nothing" made me cry), but an awesome sense of humor too. So I totally applaud them for sending in a video that's not only well-sung, but a blast to watch. From what I've heard through the grapevine, they also have a beautiful rendition of "The Luckiest" in their repertoire, and an album entitled "You Can't Spell Rock Without RO" coming out soon.

So mad props to Reverse Osmosis for representing the spirit of Troy, and submitting. Take a look at the video, and maybe leave a comment letting Ben Folds know how awesome Trojans are. Best of luck!

Ok Trojans, go out and support fellow Trojan elite, keep cool (seriously, why the hell is it so hot?), and stay classy.

while that group has a nice sound, and good numbers, I found myself kind of bored with their performance. They also had such a jazzy, almost show choir feel, but I don't know, that's just my opinion. Posted 11/24/2008 9:14 PMReply
