In Honor of Veteran's Day 2008: Join the Army?

It’s Veteran’s Day and thus a day to honor the sacrifices of the men and women of this country who dedicated themselves to protecting America. In the last few years, the holiday has been hitting a little closer to home for young people thanks to the Iraq war conflict mess.

You can imagine how that little situation has made it a tad more difficult to recruit youngsters these days. So, to get you (yes you!) to sign up, the Army has shifted its sales pitch. The new approach, as Gawker mocks, is to talk more about Iraq. Brilliant!

On the Army website there will be a new webcast called “straight from Iraq” where soldiers will give young adults in the 17-24 age range the 411 on Army life in the Middle East.

But as Gawker also wisely points out, the Army may not have to try so hard. In this economy, what’s the fear of a little gunfire compared to the dreaded prospect of unemployment. See, this was Bush’s plan the whole time.
