Superbad/Pineapple Express Crossover Movie Sequel

Superbad/Pineapple Express Crossover Movie Sequel

Superbad and Pineapple Express fans have something to pray about! There's a small possibility the two best summer comedies of 2007 and 2008 might come together for a crossover sequel. I stress the word small however.

Back in 2007, Superbad writer and star Seth Rogen was asked about a possible sequel to the box office smash, "There's almost no chance whatsoever we'll do a 'Superbad' sequel with the boys and everything, because that's where their story ends. And also, the fear with kind of doing these kind of gross-out movies is like, where can you go from there?" [Link]

Boo. Rogen could've done so much with Evan and McLovin both attending Dartmouth--trying to get laid during orientation, trying to get during Homecoming, attempting the Dartmouth Seven.

With the success of Pineapple Express, questions about a Rogen sequel arose again.

"They've been wanting us to do a sequel to Superbad for so long – but we've held off. We eventually said no. But this one, it's not a precious coming-of-age story like Superbad, it's a weed action-movie and if it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars (as opposed to the $26M we got for this one) we could benefit from that." Alright, so it's a 'no' to the Superbad trio by themselves, but what about with the Pineapple Express trio?

James Franco, star of Pineapple Express, teased interviewers about this.

“Even before ‘Superbad’ came out, I think the studio was trying to get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to write a sequel, but they really didn’t want to write a sequel. I guess the kids would go to college or something like that [that was the studio's idea],” Franco said. “And so, an answer to that was to do a ‘Superbad’/'Pineapple Express’ crossover, an unprecedented crossover movie with two directors, Greg Motolla and David Gordon Green, each directing half of the movie and somehow these characters get together, which doesn’t make sense at all, but could work.”

Rogen himself has stated that he’d be interested in a “Pineapple” sequel. But how would he combine the two universes? Just ask Franco.

“I could sell them [the characters from 'Superbad'] something, but I think we’d want some action, so you know, somehow the kids get in trouble somehow and we have to get them out of it,” Franco mused. “And Seth plays characters in both movies, so somehow we’d have to kill one of them off.”

So will we see a "Superbad Express" or "Bad Pineapple" in the future?

Thug life.
