The Cool Kids Bring Rap Subculture to the Mainstream

Living in a city like Austin, it's only one's ambition to be cool and hip. From the skinny jeans and scuffed Chucks to the iPhones and reusable, earth-friendly shopping bags made out of corn or some car part, Austinites and Longhorns alike strive for the latest and greatest. And as one of the original riders of The Cool Kids bandwagon, I have to admit, I was a little frustrated at the rap band's sudden rise to fame. If you need proof of just how big The Cool Kids have gotten in this hipster-ridden town, stand around Guadalupe and 24th and count the number of times your ears ring with the unapologetic lyrics of Mikey and Chuck. And, while, I'm still reeling from the abrupt popularity of my former favorite new music act, I must admit...they deserve it. The style, the beats and, most importantly, the lyrics make The Cool Kids' music truly one of a kind - and the perfect treat for the cool-conscious yuppie and anti-society college hipster alike.

don't complain about hipsters when you yourself are acting like one by moaning and groaning about how you knew about them first before everyone else. that must make you some sort of ultimate fan right? COOL! Posted 09/07/2008 2:32 PMReply
