Calling All Refugees to UVM

Calling All Refugees to UVM

Vermonters are notorious for taking on global causes, some make more sense than others.

This summer Burlington, Vermont may have displaced refugees from Iraq and Myanmar chilling out on the UVM campus through the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program (VRRP). The housing on campus is only temporary. This means the residents might not have a place to stay once fall classes commence.

Since the University is taking the heat for a vicious scandal with spending, it's nice to see that they are sapping some publicity off of the weary and unfortunate.

This wouldn't be the first time UVM has opened its doors to homeless disaster victims. After hurricane Katrina, UVM did offer housing and in some cases educational opportunities to former Louisiana residents.

Now, this may not be an open call for all the homeless to get on board, but I guess there should be some merit given to UVM for the effort.

I hope the Vermonters are brushing up on their Kurdish, Arabic, and Burmese.

yeah this is our president's way of saying:
"sorry for spending 80 bazillion of your tuition dollars on an ugly student center- to make you politically conscious young minds feel better, i'll give a couple dozen refugees a shitty dorm bed, a scratchy blanket and some processed beef! feel better now?"

i suppose it's the thought that counts.

are you serious? i don't see all too many other colleges and universities housing refugees. the student center might be ugly but at least the materials used are recycled, meaning UVM actually acknowledges the environmental problems at hand. those refugees don't have anywhere to go, so a "***ty dorm bed, a scratchy blanket and some processed beef" might be better than nothing/dying.

idiot.
