Going into Sunday’s game, UVM’s men’s soccer team was undefeated, and no one expected Harvard to change that fact. And yet, the Ivy League school did with a whopping three-point shutout victory over the Catamounts.
Nothing screams ‘choke’ more than losing to team of Ivy Leaguers whose win-loss ratio was a paltry .500 for the season.
UVM’s troubles on Sunday began in the second half when they started losing steam, but the relentless Crimsons kept up the blitzkrieg-like offensive.
The Burlington Free Press reports:
“After a good win at Central Connecticut on Friday we struggled to get it going this afternoon,” UVM coach Jesse Cormier said in a news release. “Harvard played with more energy, especially in the second half when we hit a wall.”
UVM starter Roger Sully made a season-high eight saves for the Catamounts before giving way to Milton’s Trevor Quinn, who played the final 10 minutes in his college debut.
Ah – so angry UVM fans can blame rookie Trevor Quinn for the embarrassing defeat? Good to know.
Hopefully, the Catamounts bounce back from their devastating loss next Monday, the 22nd, when they face Colgate.
