Summer is coming to an end and you may not be looking forward to buying textbooks or early morning classes just yet but here is something to get your mind off all that: Chromeo is coming to campus on October 25th for what is shaping up to be the Biggest Halloween Dance Party Ever, thanks to student-led group SA Concerts. The pair will be gracing us with their live musical talents in our very own Patrick Gymnasium.
Chromeo is a fabulous duo made up of P-Thugg (Patrick Gemayel) and Dave 1 (David Macklovitch), best friends since childhood. Their beats first got us tapping our feet with their debut album She's In Control in 2004. But it was their album Fancy Footwork in 2007 that really got us moving. After being named MTV's "Artist of the Week" last October 1st, the world was exposed to their fabulous tunes; perfect for dancing and pumping up any bad mood.
Pitchfork Media's review of their latest album sums them up perfectly: "The band's self-consciously limited palette-- an electrofunk-by-numbers mélange of talk boxes, 808s, canned percussion, and Prince-style atmospherics-- is just another manifestation of their inability to tell a lie. If a song's called 'Fancy Footwork', it's going to be about fancy footwork."
So get ready because I'm predicting this to be the best dance party anybody could ask for. If you thought Girl Talk was good (or just complete mayhem), then Chromeo is going to blow you away.
