University of Vermont Student to Undergo Reconstructive Surgery After Getting Hit by Car

Last Monday, Rose Long, a member of UVM’s cycling team, was struck by a red Jeep Cherokee-style vehicle while riding with her teammates on Pearl Street. The damage to the 20-year-old college student’s face was so extensive that she will undergo facial reconstruction at the end of the week.

According to the police report, Long was hit by the car when it unexpectedly turned onto North Union Street, and she suffered from multiple fractures, severe facial lacerations and a collapsed lung, as a result.

What’s worse, however, is that the driver of the vehicle sped off from the scene and has not been apprehended by the authorities.

Thankfully, the Burlington Free Press has detailed descriptions of both the criminal and vehicle:

The vehicle is described as a red, Cherokee-style Jeep that was likely manufactured in the mid- to late-1990s, with a large dent in the rear passenger side door. The vehicle bears green registration plates with possible registration number of DME 977.

The operator was described as a white male with dark hair wearing a white T-shirt, khaki shorts and white sneakers. He is estimated to be in his early- to mid-20s and is between 5-feet-8 and 5-feet-10 inches tall.

If anyone in the Burlington area has any information, please contact the police and let them know immediately.

Better yet – if you are the driver of the vehicle, turn yourself in. You will be caught; it’s only a matter of time.

A hit and run where they got the dude's shoe color? Probably wouldn't have hit the biker if his feet weren't out the window. What a moron. Posted 09/28/2008 2:05 PMReply
