I don't know about you guys, but every once in a while, I get tired of my campus. Sure, it's a beautiful, and sure, it's got some awesome statues, but sometimes you want to see somewhere new, you know?
These guys know all too well, apparently.
Steven and Caroline Lake have now visited 500 college campuses, MSNBC reports. Yes, 500. To do it, they have been visiting colleges for the last 24 years:
On their honeymoon in 1984, Steve and Caroline Lake did something that lots of tourists do in Boston — they stopped to visit some of the area's well-known colleges.
Then the honeymoon ended. And the Lakes just kept on visiting colleges.
Twenty-four years later, on trips across the country and occasionally in other countries, the Lakes are still building their vacations around visits to college campuses. On Monday, Steve Lake checked the 500th four-year college off his list, at a ceremony at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Talk about the ultimate campus tour.
The Lakes, who normally reside in Las Vegas (where Steven is a pit boss at Caesar's), have been planning their vacations around colleges ever since. To visit all 500, though, they can't stay for too long. Some campuses they literally step out of their car, look around for a few minutes, and continue. At others they'll take a campus tour and visit a building or go to a performance.
So why do this? Steven went to school in Canada, and his college lacked an actual campus-- it was in an office building. He seems to be reliving that experience. That, and he seems to just be into that kind of thing-- he's visited all 50 state capitals and 47 MLB stadiums. His favorite campuses? UVA and the University of Richmond, as well as Colgate, Princeton and Stanford all topped his list.
So to these older collegiates, I say congrats! Nothing wrong with staying young. Though I wonder why one of the best schools didn't make their list. Hmmm...
