Leroi Moore, DMB Saxophonist, Dies at 46

He had the coolest name, twelve Grammy awards, and enviable lung capacity. His name was Leroi Moore, better known as the saxophonist for the ultimate college band, Dave Matthews Band. Moore passed away August 19, 2008 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center from complications following an ATV accident.

 

According to NME:

 

Matthews reportedly paid tribute to Moore at the band's sold-out show at the Los Angeles Staples Center... "We all had some bad news today," he said. "Our good friend LeRoi Moore passed on and gave his ghost up today and we will miss him forever."


The band also posted a statement on their website saying:

 

We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.


Moore will be remembered as a consummate musician.

Leroi - you were truly an awesome musician and person and you'll be greatly missed by everyone who's lives you touched. Dave Matthews Band will never be the same as you were the "soul" of the band in part creating it's signature sound. Rest in Peace. Posted 08/21/2008 10:49 PMReply
