U-Michigan Grooms Young Sex Offenders?

The University of Michigan is not only an academic institution; it’s a hot spot for young sex offenders.

U-Mich joined the ranks of the sexual assault elite, when the Ann Arbor News reported a 15-year-old male sexually assaulted a 16-year-old male at one of the academic summer programs held on the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor campus this past Sunday evening. Details have not been released on the incident and the student had not displayed any behavior like this prior to this event, leaving the UM campus to blame.

During these high school summer programs, students are supposed to be under close supervision. Apparently, the resident assistant was not overseeing activities in the proper manner. Keeping the public in the dark is a tactic to cover up the unfortunate missteps of the supervision at the camp.

How could this happen? One young person is scarred for life, while the other awaits his fate.

The 15-year-old is now simmering in juvenile lock up till further advancements are made on his case. The University of Michigan is left with the indelible stamp of “location of a sex crime” until further notice.

Or details aren't being released because they're minors. The fact that you're hearing about it so soon after it happens shows that there isn't a cover up. Furthermore, RA's at high school camps are RA's, not babysitters. Posted 07/25/2008 12:59 PMReply

Saying that the University of Michigan is to blame for this is near libel. Posted 07/25/2008 1:00 PMReply

The term hot spot seems like a exaggeration when you cite one case. Posted 07/25/2008 2:22 PMReply

Was the program itself hosted by UM or was it merely on the UM campus? To say that UM breeds sex offenders due to one case is preposterous. I'm sure I can find cases of sex offenders at UVA, I'm sure you'd take offense if I were to state that your school groomed sex offenders. Quit speaking in broad general terms because some idiot high schooler did something on our beloved campus. Posted 07/25/2008 2:27 PMReply

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Posted 07/25/2008 7:00 PMReply

This isn't a case involving university students--it involves random high schoolers who chose to participate in some sort of a summer program. Furthermore, "hot spot" suggests that this is common behavior at Michigan, but the campus is probably one of the safest in the nation. Stop exaggerating facts just to get a story, because it only makes readers question your integrity. Posted 07/28/2008 10:06 AMReply

whoever wrote this article is an ignorant ****
you have no knowledge if the situation yet you choose to write hurtful articles like this
there is no proof that the 15 yr old is a sex offender or will be
you should be ashamed for publishing this

i am this particular summer program...it's a very popular program with several hundred intelligent kids, and I can tell you that the majority of the RAs are recent high school grads (not yet freshmen in college), many whom are very familiar and/or came from the same high schools as the kids involved in the actual program. They are usually rather trusting, and since they are kids themselves, they are not going to babysit the kids - additionally, 11:00 to 11:30 is not yet lights out and kids can wander in their respective halls, it would have been incredibly difficult to keep track of every participant.
