Many universities have tried everything to reduce drinking on college campuses.
From scare tactics to strictness, it seems like nothing really works to curb the alcoholic tendencies of students. However, University of Virginia thinks they may have found the solution: the truth.
A recent study found that exposing students at the university to accurate information about their peers’ drinking habits has reduced the negative consequences of drinking. For years the school has been using a “social norms” marketing campaign to tell us students, hey people don’t drink as much as you think they do, and you shouldn’t either.
As a result, they claim there have been less students injured in alcohol-related incidents, less drinking and driving and even less unprotected sex. Wow, this truth thing is crazy enough that it might just work.
What do you think? Will the truth set you free or is it more manipulation by our college administrators? Do students here drink less than everyone thinks or are we still boozy binge-drinkers at heart?
