10 Best UW Jobs on Campus You Wish You Had

With school work, extracurricular interests and partying, students who have a job while going to school definitely deserve a round of applause. And if you are one of the lucky ones who actually like their job, there is even more of a reason to be envious. Though in the state of Wisconsin, job titles such as “diary farmer” and “cheese taster” are no joke, there are many other jobs on campus that have double the benefits and half the embarrassment.

1. Starbucks Barista: Shaking, stirring and blending may get repetitive, but I’m sure the employees of Starbucks are finding no reason to complain. According to the Starbucks Tuition Reimbursement Program, putting in a good year of work while attending school could ultimately pay off in the end. Keep on stirring.

2. Bartender: We all know bartenders make great money and work not so great hours, but there are some bars on campus in particular that are perfect places to work. Bars such as Brats or the KK have groups of drunken kids piling in on a regular basis, just waiting to give you all their money and keep an open tab all night.

3. Urban outfitters: Working at Urban means that you will receive amazing discounts and were cool enough to be hired. Apparently the hiring process is all about the right look and the right attitude, so your high school resume and extracurricular list will do nothing for you here.

4. The Gym: If you have the privilege of checking student I.D.’s at the SERF, you probably have one of the easiest and most relaxing jobs known to man. When your job title requires you to sit in a heightened chair and to swipe I.D.s from sweaty workout junkies, you have nothing to complain about.

5. Bouncer at Buffalo Wild Wings: Though most bouncers have to deal with sloppy drunks, bar fights and pushy girls trying to cut to the front of the line, being a bouncer at this restaurant means you don’t have to deal with any of the stuff a normal bouncer would have to. Most BDUBS goers are calm, tipsy and well-mannered.

6. Snow mobile driver: Those guys riding around in snow machines that help us walk to class easier have a job worth applying for. Riding around in an oversized machine while splashing Coasties with snow might be worth working in the cold weather.

7. Photographer for the Badger Herald: This not-so-typical job requires you to either attend sporting events or spot anything interesting that is happening on campus. Only downside: climbing those stairs up to the office to turn in your work…brutal.

8. Captain Morgan or Coors Light Girl: You have probably been in a bar where a girl wearing a costume, sporting a slogan of some sort of alcoholic beverage has come up to you offering shots and a chance to win something. These girls get to participate in 365 days of Halloween as they dress up and socialize on a nightly basis.

9. Bucky Badger Mascot: Other than push-up bragging rights, rocking the Bucky costume means you get to wear “ugg-like” armor during cold winter games.

10. Student: If you are lucky enough to have generous parents who believe that going to school is the only form of work you should participate in, you should definitely just enjoy being a student and all the laziness that go along with it.

So the next time you are on the job hunt and can’t decide between being Bucky or a Barista, think about what perks have your name on it and if you could handle all the ridiculousness that accompanies them.
